The Best Prices
Our prices are amongst the best locally with no call out charges, no hidden extras, and we’ll take on jobs of all sizes.
When it comes to doing the job, your Plumber will always turn up at the agreed time, complete the task to a high standard, clean up the workspace and leave your property as found.
Domestic Plumbing
Taps
Taps in both the kitchen and bathroom can be repaired or replaced. Most kitchens will have mixer taps connected to both the hot and cold water supply, which allows mixing to obtain the ideal temperature. Traditional Pillar Taps can be found in both the Kitchen and Bathroom, while Monobloc taps are common in bathrooms.
Whatever taps you want to work on, they should all be installed with flexible hoses that allow the tap to be shut off without switching off the whole water supply.
We always supply and fit flexible hoses with new tap installations. All taps use one of four mechanisms Ball, Cartridge, Disc or Washer. All Tap mechanisms wear out, eventually causing constant (and annoying dripping). We carry tap mechanisms in stock and can quickly repair any worn tap. Any Taps that are beyond repair we can replace quickly also.
Toilets
Not only do we unblock Toilets, but we also install and repair them. Also, we can help if your cistern is continually filling, or your toilet needs to be flushed repeatedly or if it won’t flush at all. All Toilets work the same way and can be repaired swiftly.
Our Plumbers install all toilet types whether you have a traditional bathroom and want a classic close coupled toilet, or maybe you want a square wall hung Toilet for your modern bathroom?

Saniflo Systems
Whatever your requirements, your friendly local Plumber will meet them. Toilets no longer have to be limited to the bath/cloakroom. We can install them anywhere you want. In a cupboard, your garage, the loft anywhere’s possible with a Saniflo system.
A Saniflo sits behind a toilet and utilises blades to cut down waste into fine particles, which are then pumped through thin pipes directly into the sewer. Saniflos will work with other appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines and showers, giving you have the freedom to install what you want where you want.
Showers
Shower installation, replacement and repair are offered as part of our plumbing services. We can install and repair any shower, including Mixer Showers, which use water from the hot and cold water supply, Electric Showers which run off the cold water supply, and Power Showers that use water from the hot and cold supply with a pump to boost the pressure. If you’re having pump problems, we can usually cure them or install new pumps where needed.
All types Of Shower Fitted
For those that want to save on their water and energy bills, we can fit an Eco shower that uses 50% more water than regular mixer showers. Electric and Mixer Eco showers are available. We’ll ensure the best one for your bathroom’s fitted for maximum energy efficiency.
A Thermostatic shower’s the best bet for residents who have children, which maintains the set ratio of hot and cold water at all times, eliminating the risk of scalding.
The most convenient shower we fit are digital showers with separate control panels (wired or wireless) that work as a remote control, so no more getting into a cold shower and waiting for it to warm up. We fix common shower issues, including leaking heads, temperature fluctuations, low water pressure, cold water, and no water.
Kitchen Appliances
Kitchen Appliances can be fitted, such as Dishwashers and Washing Machines. Our Plumber will ensure they are connected correctly to the water supply with no leaks and level, ensuring they run properly without any problems.
We also fit and repair Waste Disposal Units that sit under the kitchen sink. Waste Disposal Units use little energy; they grind food into fine waste that’s flushed into the sewer. A clean and convenient appliance for dealing with your food waste, they’re also incredibly environmentally friendly.
Heating Services
We offer a range of heating services to homeowners, landlords, tenants, and business owners. All our Plumbers are Gas Safe Registered engineers also who are experienced in all aspects of heating installation, repair, servicing and optimisation (to ensure your central heating system’s running at the best it possibly can).
New heating installations, service, repairs combined with the correct setting ensures maximal efficiency and lower fuel bills.
Heating Systems We Cover
We work on Gas, Electric and Oil heating systems. Homes use gas to power their central heating systems, a cheap and environmentally friendly fuel. Homes on the outskirts, away from the gas line, rely on electricity or oil. Whatever your fuel type, we can help you.
The Central Heating System
The most complicated part of the central heating system is the Boiler. We offer a range of boiler services, including installation, upgrade, service, and repair for all types and make of Boiler, which includes Alpha, Ariston, Baxi, Ferolli, Glow-worm, Grundfos, Heat-line, Ideal, Keston, Potterton, Saunier Duval, Vaillant, Viessman and Vokera.
Your Boiler heats water from the mains supply and distributes it through pipes around your home. The heated water’s used for your hot taps, showers, radiators and underfloor heating pipes.
Boilers come in different sizes and types. The type of Boiler you have will depend on the size and available space in your home, existing central heating system and hot water requirements.

Boiler Types
Combination Boilers
Combi boilers are very popular when compared to other boilers. They are quick and easy to install and take up the least amount of space. No hot water storage (water cylinder) is required for a combi boiler as the water’s heated instantly. Combi Boilers are the number one choice for smaller homes and feature in many medium-sized dwellings also.
System Boilers
While Combi Boilers work well for many homes, larger homes require hot water at separate points at the same time often. A Combi can’t meet the demands of family households. In this situation, a system Boiler that utilises a pressurised cylinder is the preferred option. System Boilers heat water stored in the cylinder, so a plentiful supply of hot water’s always available.
Regular Boilers
Traditional systems utilise a Regular Boiler, Feed and expansion tank, storage cylinder and central heating pump. A complex network of parts which in recent years has made way for modern system and combi boiler systems.
We still install regular boilers when upgrading old systems or installing systems for the first time in the largest of homes. Regular Boilers are excellent for supplying a constant supply of hot water to multiple taps.
Setting A Central Heating System
All central heating systems have various working parts, all of which must be set correctly to work in unison for the best efficiency. Central heating systems include Boiler, pipes, pump, radiators, radiator valves, controls, water heaters and cylinder.
When you use TM Hughes & Son for installation, upgrade, service or repair, we can check and set all other parts of your central heating system so you get the very most out of it.
Controls
To get your desired amount of heat in each room at the correct times, central heating controls must be set correctly. We find lots of poorly set controls which lead to excess energy wastage (and money) we often hear complaints of individual rooms being too hot or cold.
The thermostat, programmer and cylinder thermostat must be in good working order. Old and inaccurate controls will lead to erroneous heating.
Thermostatic Valves
Older systems have manual valves on the radiators. It’s challenging to heat a room accurately with old radiator valves, so you may want to consider upgrading. Thermostatic valves allow the temperature of each room to be set accurately.
We can upgrade old valves on your old radiators or upgrade both. If you already have thermostatic valves, one of our engineers can set them correctly for you or fix them if they have become ‘stuck’. A common problem that’s easily remedied.
Pressure
Central heating systems must run at the correct pressure. Boilers run at between 1-1.5 bar. The pressure is checked any time a boiler installed, repaired or serviced. Some old central heating systems may not be able to cope with the stress of a system boiler and pressurised cylinder; in this instance, we may fit a combi boiler or regular Boiler. Our engineers have the expertise to determine the correct pressure for any given system.
Pumps
Pumps are found within boilers, on central heating systems and shower systems. We offer a full pump installation, upgrade and repair service for boilers, central heating systems and showers. Pumps are usually one of the first items to fail on a system as they work hard continuously day in day out. They are, however, straight forward to replace. If you’re having pump trouble, we’ll diagnose the issue and repair or replace it as necessary.

Boiler Installation
Boilers are important purchases. It’s essential the best one for your home and your budget’s installed. We offer free no-obligation boiler surveys for local residents. Our safe gas engineers have been installing boilers in and around the area for many years and can help if you’re thinking of having a new Boiler installed.
Once your Boiler gets over ten years old, it’s time to consider an upgrade. You may already be experiencing problems, or you may have noticed your boilers become less efficient at heating your home (more substantial energy bills are an indicator). As boilers age, they lose efficiency and are more likely to break down. Parts are hard to obtain for old boilers, and some are so unsafe they’re condemned.
We make Boiler installation easy. We can do straight upgrades where your old boilers were taken out, and a new one (of the same type) is put in place to work with your existing central heating system.
Hot water and heating requirements change for some households. You may want more hot water storage, or you may want to free up storage space by removing tanks and cylinders. We can upgrade your central heating system to work with a different type of Boiler. We are Worcester Bosch accredited engineers who fit all makes and types of boilers.
A free survey will establish your needs and allow us to write a free no-obligation quote.

Boiler Repair
We repair all types and makes of Boiler. If your Boiler ever breaks down, you want it fixed ASAP. No one likes going without hot water and heating, especially in the colder months. We get called out in winter more than any other time of year to repair Boilers. If you need a repair, call us, and we’ll aim to get an engineer out to you within a couple of hours.
As long as we have the parts, we can usually repair boilers quickly. Most of the time, a replacement part is all that’s needed. We carry common boiler parts which enable a swift repair. Otherwise, we’ll obtain the parts quickly and, in most instances, have your Boiler working the same day.
Protect yourself from Boiler failure by having an annual service (see below). If you’re experiencing any faults with your Boiler, have them looked out before they cause a breakdown. What is a fault? Loud uncommon noises, constantly extinguishing pilot lights, continuous boiler switch offs and frozen condensate pipes (ensure outside pipes connected to your Boiler are adequately insulated). Our engineers are happy to correct any faults you may be experiencing.
We repair all types and makes of Boiler. Our services include no call out charges.
Boiler Servicing
Servicing your boiler ensures it will run smoothly at the best efficiency and adds protection from breakdown. TM Hughes boiler services are quick, efficient, and reasonably priced compared to other companies.
For the best results, Boiler servicing should be carried out annually. Registered gas engineers undertake all servicing to the specifications of your boiler manufacturer. A set procedure’s followed, which covers all parts of the boiler.
During the service, all seals and pipework checked for leaking. Where seals are worn or pipework’s loose, corrections are made. The pressures checked along with the gas burner. We’ll ensure all safety devices are functioning correctly, so your boiler won’t suffer damage in the event of failure.
The gas rate and flues tested to ensure all exhaust gasses are removed and there’s no risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Once the service is complete, the boilers switched on, and all radiators are bled to ensure everything working properly.
Servicing validates home breakdown cover (if you have it) and allows your boiler to run as best as possible (boiler efficiency following a service depends on the age, type and condition of your boiler).

Power Flushing
Powerflushing cleanses the entire central heating system, your boiler, pipes, radiators, pump and valves. By Powerflushing your system every five years (and ideally every time you replace an old boiler), your system will run at maximal efficiency.
Central heating systems produce limescale and rust. Limescale’s inevitable anywhere waters heated and left standing as such central heating systems are prime limescale producers. Limescale breaks away and circulates the system. Most will get settle in the pipes and radiators. Other larger parts may even get stuck in places (and in extreme cases can cause boiler failure.
The inside radiators rust. The rust breaks away and again settles in pipes and at the bottom of radiators. Eventually, the limescale and rust form a mud-like substance known as sludge. Sludge prevents central heating systems from heating optimally. Dirty water and radiators that only heat at the top or middle and top (not at the bottom or bottom and middle) are indicators of sludge.
Powerflushing removes sludge. A machine is attached to the central heating system. The machine gently pumps chemicals diluted with water around the system until the systems clear. Old waters removed and replaced with new treated water that’ll help prevent the sludge’s build-up in the future. Once your system’s been flushed, your radiators would have never felt hotter. You should enjoy lower fuel bills as well.
Underfloor Heating
The ultimate type of central heating? Underfloor Heating. This type of system is incredibly energy-efficient, nearly enough maintenance-free, and heats each part of a room evenly. Everyone loves the feeling of a warm floor, especially when it’s cold outside. Underfloor Heating allows for the removal of radiators freeing up space.
TM Hughes & Son install, upgrade, service and repair both wet and electric Underfloor Heating. Wet systems are connected to your existing boiler and central heating system. Electric systems are wired into the mains supply. The type you choose will depend on your budget and the existing central heating system. While electric is cheaper to install, it’s more expensive to run.
Underfloor Heating is the number one choice when it comes to newly built homes, extensions and renovations. Systems can be fitted into homes of any age and floor type. Some systems are screeded into new floors, while others are fitted between floorboards or laid directly under flooring, whether carpet, tile vinyl or stone. Underfloor Heating works with most types of flooring.
Need your existing Underfloor Heating serviced or repaired? We can replace old parts on existing systems such as manifolds and valves. We can also check over your system to make sure everything working properly. If your system develops a fault under the floor, we can quickly establish any thermal imaging camera problems.

Bathroom Installation
Multiple skilled craftsmen build a good bathroom. That’s why the TM Hughes Bathroom Installation team comprises experienced and certified Plumbers, Heating Engineers, Electricians & Tilers. They have installed many bathrooms over the years.
We offer free no-obligation surveys and quotes for bathroom installation. Our bathroom fitter can visit your home, measure up and talk through all the options with you. Some customers know exactly how they want their bathroom designed and built. Others want to be shown what’s possible.
Everyone has their own unique needs from a bathroom. All bathrooms are designed around your requirements. If you have young children, we can fit the best non-slip flooring.
We can build your bathroom to your specified design or show you multiple options in terms of suites, flooring, wall coverings, lighting fixtures and fittings. Many looks are possible: classic victorian, minimal Scandinavian, industrial and beach house are some examples. Each unique looks achieved with suite shapes, wall & flooring materials and colours.
Radiators are matched to fit your design or eliminated and replaced with underfloor heating. Lighting can make or break the look of any bathroom. The overall mood is set with carefully placed lighting. Furniture Fixtures and fittings finish off the look of bathrooms and are placed properly for the best possible functionality and usability.
Gas Safety Inspections & Certificates
We carry out gas safety inspections and provide landlords with gas safety certificates (CP12 Certificates). We can also issue electrical certificates if required. When landlords let properties, they must ensure Gas appliances are safe for their tenants as outlined in the gas safety installation and use regulations 1998.
The process is usually straightforward. A gas safe registered engineer visits your property at a convenient time for you and your tenant. All gas appliances are visually inspected and tested for safety. Flues and chimneys are tested, and the mains gas supply is checked. The inspection confirms gas is burned and expelled correctly, so there’s no risk of carbon monoxide poisoning and all safety devices work.
If any issues are found, they can be rectified there and then, or later date depends on the issues and how severe they are. If necessary, we’ll quote for any repairs. Once everything passed and deemed safe, certificates are written. Show the certificate to your letting agent, tenants, and insurers to verify your property’s safe and legal to rent.
Gas safety inspections must be carried out every 12 months, or when a new tenant moves in, we’ll write to you as a reminder before the certificate expires so you can ensure you’re always covered.

Gas Fire Servicing
Gas Fires are a desirable living room accessory providing much needed extra heat in winter. As a fuel-burning appliance, gas fires should be serviced every 12 months, ideally, before the cold months start and the fires put to daily use.
Some homeowners neglect their fires and rarely get them serviced. Fires become difficult to light, exhibit soot stains on the exterior or start smoking. All signs your fire could do with a service and potentially dangerous please consider if your noticing symptoms or haven’t had a service in the last year.
A service allows your fire to run efficiently and safely, greatly reducing the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. We service all types of gas fire, chimneys and flues. All internal parts, such as the burner unit and catalyst, are removed from the assembly and thoroughly cleaned, making them work better than ever. Gas pressures tested, and we’ll examine the chimney/flue output to ensure all excess gasses are taken away.
Carbon monoxide alarms should accompany gas fires. We’ll check your alarm and position during the service. If an alarm isn’t present, we’ll recommend one. Once the service’s completed, we’ll write a service record. (please note we only service gas fires. We don’t undertake repairs)
Gas Cooker Services
Gas cookers, hobs and ovens are a popular choice in kitchens. A clean, energy-efficient fuel that allows accurate heat control and distribution. When removing old gas cookers or fitting new ones, it’s essential a gas safe registered engineers used. We make gas cooker replacement quick and easy with our connection & disconnection service.
We fit all gas cooker types, including standard gas, LPG, gas range cookers, built-in gas ovens, dual fuel cookers, gas hobs and built-in gas hobs. Your old cookers disconnected and your new cookers unpacked and connected to the gas supply. Once in place, we’ll test your cooker as per the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure it’s working properly.
The hob area must be clear from obstructions such as cabinets and smoke alarms. Any extractor fans must be at a suitable height. Also, we’ll check that everything in order so the installation adheres to safety regulations. Records provided, so you show your cookers been fitted by a gas safe registered engineer (usually a guaranteed requirement)

Plumbing & Gas Emergencies
Some emergencies are more severe than others. A Frozen Pipe can cause a burst pipe that can flood your home, potentially creating thousands of pounds of damage. Blockages can put your Toilet, Bath, Shower and Sink out of action and cause flooding. Boiler Failure will leave you without hot water and heating, highly unpleasant, especially in the depths of winter.
One of our Plumbers can be at your home within 2 hours at any time of the day or night, there’s no call out charges, and we charge good rates, so you know you’ll not be overcharged.
In the event of a Plumbing Emergency, call us immediately. We’ll get a Plumber over to you ASAP whether the emergency relates to a domestic or commercial property, and we’ll tell you what to do over the phone to limit the damage. Here’s what you should do in emergencies.
Frozen & Burst Pipes
In the depths of winter, exposed uninsulated pipes can freeze. Pipes outside and in the loft are most at risk. Make sure your pipes are insulated. Insulation’s the best protection against freezing. It’s cheap to buy and easy to fit. For those who aren’t into DIY, we can insulate your pipes for you.
Symptoms of frozen pipes include slow running taps, frost on pipes and weird smells coming from your tap or drain. Frozen pipes need defrosting immediately, but won’t they defrost on their own? Yes, they will, but the longer the pipes frozen, the more the frozen water will expand. Expanded frozen water inside a pipe will eventually cause it to burst. When the pipe defrosts, water will leak, causing damage in the process.
The worst types of leaks are ones in the loft. Voids will fill with water and eventually burst like a balloon flooding your home. You can catch these types of leaks quickly by noticing drips coming from the ceiling. In the event of a leak, wherever it’s coming from, shut off your water supply at the mains stopcock.
The mains stopcock controls the water entering your home from the mains water supply outside, usually located in the kitchen but sometimes elsewhere. Make sure you know where it’s located and make sure it works. Some have been left open for a very long time and won’t close if this is the case one of our Plumbers can release or replace with a new one. Leaks coming through the ceiling are usually caused by pipes supplying a water tank in the loft; the water tank will have a stopcock shut this off also.
Blockages
Blockages occur mainly in Toilets and Drains. Toilet pans filling up (and even worse spilling over) and slow draining indicates an obstruction. The drains in your sink, bathroom basin, bath and shower can become clogged up with debris such as food and hair. If you notice gurgling or foul smells coming from the drains, this means your pipes are obstructed somewhere and need clearing.
There are two types of blockages full where no water will pass or partial blockages where water will pass slowly. A full blockage is more urgent as it puts your toilet, shower, bath or sinks out of action (unless you want to flood your home). You’ll only get away with a partial blockage for so long. Eventually, it will block fully and need the attention of an emergency Plumber, but no need to worry any blockages you have can be dealt with by our team quickly and cleanly.
Boiler Failure
Boiler Failure commonly occurs with old and neglected boilers. All boilers should be serviced once a year, protecting you from Boiler breakdown and Carbon Monoxide poisoning. An annual service will also make your Boiler run as efficiently as possible, which will save you money. TM Hughes Boiler Servicing is among the cheapest in locally, and you will get a full, thorough boiler service that conforms to Gas Safe procedures.
In the event your Boiler fails, you’ll be left without hot water and heating. All our Plumbers are Gas Safe Registered engineers who’ll have your Boiler back up and running in no time. We carry most parts in stock for Boiler repairs, and parts we don’t carry, we can source the same day. We work on all types of Boiler, whatever the brand. These include Worcester Bosch (were accredited installers), Vaillant, Baxi, Potterton and Glow-Worm, to name a few.
Time for a New Boiler? We regularly carry out New Boiler installations in the area. A new Boiler will give you a warmer, cosier home with optimal energy efficiency leading to cheaper gas bills. Let us know if you would like a free no-obligation quote for a new Boiler. Also, please note we can offer up to a 10-year warranty on some Boilers we install.
Carbon Monoxide
Most homes use fuel-burning appliances to supply their heat, meaning they are at risk from carbon monoxide poisoning. Homes must have Carbon Monoxide Alarms fitted, Carbon Monoxide can kill, and the only way to detect it is with an alarm that will beep loudly if Carbon Monoxides present.
Alarms can be purchased cheaply from most DIY shops to fit yourself, or one of our engineers can supply and fit alarms for you. Don’t leave anything to chance. Protect yourself and your family.
Thanks to advancing Gas Appliance technology, building regulations, skilled Gas engineers and the Gas Safe Register, Carbon Monoxide leaks are rare, but there are still 25 deaths every year in the UK, which is too much. Evacuate yourself and your family from your home if your Carbon Monoxide Alarm starts beeping and call us.
Don’t re-enter your home until we have checked your appliances, tested your home, and given you the all-clear. If anyone experiences nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headaches, or confusion, call an ambulance immediately.
Gas Leaks
Gas Leaks are another potentially fatal occurrence of smelling Gas. Shut off your Gas Supply immediately, don’t smoke or switch on any appliances, open all windows and doors (if possible), evacuate your home and give us a call, don’t go back into your home until we have checked your Gas Supply and okayed it.
