TM Hughes & Son have been servicing Gas Fires in the Maldon area for the past three decades. We have a team of experienced Gas Safe Registered engineers who have serviced all makes and types of fires over the years.

Service Benefits

An annual fire service provides many benefits.

Efficiency

Over the course of winter, fire components work extremely hard and become dirty, which reduces efficiency, costing more to run and making your Fire more prone to breakdown. All working parts are cleaned and inspected, so they function properly. Your Fire will run very efficiently, burning less fuel giving you warmth for less money. The chances of breakdown are considerably lowered after servicing also.

Safety

Servicing involves safety checks on the working parts, flues & chimneys, ensuring the whole system’s safe and doesn’t pose a carbon monoxide risk. All gas appliances are a carbon monoxide risk if fuels not burned properly, or there are issues with flues and chimneys. Servicing uncovers any faults allowing us to rectify them so you and your family are safe. A carbon monoxide alarm should be placed in the same room as your Fire. We can advise on this if necessary during the service.

Warranties

Most warranties and home breakdown cover isn’t valid unless your Fire’s been serviced in the last twelve months. After the service, you’ll be presented with a service record that proves your fires been serviced to the correct standard. Use this to validate your fire warranty or breakdown cover.

Landlords

Good landlords ensure Gas Fire’s in their properties are serviced. A good time to service is during the compulsory annual gas safety checks.

Thorough Service Procedure

Everything is covered during a TM Hughes & Son Gas Fire Service. We follow a strict procedure that ensures your fires serviced to the required standard.

  1. Turn off the gas supply
  2. Clean fire assembly
  3. Remove components
  4. Clean burner unit, pipes, catalysts, inline restrictor and pilot assembly
  5. Turn on gas supply
  6. Test fire for gas leaks
  7. Test chimney/flue ventilation
  8. Test pressure
  9. Check Fire is working properly
  10. Write service record

Does Your Fire Need Servicing?

Have you had your Fire serviced in the last twelve months? If not, you should certainly have a service. Gas Fires should be serviced annually (every twelve months).

Other signs your Fire needs servicing include soot stains, Fire goes out, the Fire’s difficult to light and a smokey room. If you’re experiencing any of these issues, then speak to a qualified gas engineer ASAP.
