The central heating pump is an overlooked but essential component of the central heating system. The pump distributes hot water around your home. If your pump fails, you will have no hot water on tap or any heating. An old or incorrectly fitted pump can cause issues with your hot water supply and central heating.

Your Central Heating Pump will need to look at if you have the following problems.

  • The pump is humming or rattling
  • The pump is knocking or grating
  • The pump makes no noise at all
  • The pump won’t start
  • The Pump is hot to touch
  • Pump is leaking
  • No radiators are getting warm
  • Only some radiators are getting warm

Sometimes the pump will appear to be running. Still, no radiators are getting hot, the propellers could be stuck and will need releasing, which could be the end of the problem, but if it keeps happening regularly, the pump could be nearing the end of its life, the replacement will be in order.

Other causes of poorly working pumps can be dirt and sludge build-up or airlocks. Dirt and sludge can build up over time throughout the whole central heating system and can be cleared with power flushing while airlocks can be bled out.

A leaking pump is caused by a worn seal or corrosion in the pump itself. Worn seals can usually be replaced. If your pump is leaking due to corrosion, it will need to be replaced.

If your pumps are not working at all, it could be down to a blown a fuse, faulty wiring, or the pump has reached the end of its life and will need replacing.

If you would like one of our Heating Engineers to repair or replace your Central Heating Pump, please contact us using the phone numbers or contact form below.
