Gas Safe Registered

Always use a Gas Safe Registered engineer when having work done on your gas appliances. All TM Hughes engineers are fully certified and registered. Book an engineer at any time suitable for you. On arrival, he’ll produce his Gas Safe identification. So you can rest assured you’re dealing with a qualified professional (our engineers have years of experience also).

All Boiler Servicing is carried out to a high standard following a strict procedure. Our engineers are tidy and will always leave the work area as they found it. Following the service, your Boiler will run at the maximum possible efficiency (how well will depend on the Boiler’s age and condition).

Suppose necessary recommendations are given on your Boiler and Central Heating system (so you can get the most out of it). Sometimes during a service, we uncover issues that may require attention, so an inevitable fault doesn’t occur. We carry many parts in stock on our vans. The parts we don’t stock we can usually source locally. We’ll always ask you first and give you a price before carrying out any additional work.

Boilers are checked for signs of carbon monoxide; we’ll make recommendations on carbon monoxide alarms for homes that don’t have them. The Boiler Service Procedure

Visually examine the exterior of the case, remove the case and inspect the interior. This process allows us to identify any corrosion caused by exhausted rubber seals and pressure valves. Damaged cases will be mended (if possible). If not, we’ll get a new case for your boiler. All seals and pipework are thoroughly checked for corrosion, tightness and leaks. These can be changed during the service if necessary.

Boiler Pressure

Next, the pressures checked and adjusted if needed to ensure optimal water flow. We’ll soon find out if there are any blockages in the system (blockages can cause the Boiler to keep switching off). We then extensively clean the internal elements, which will help your Boiler run smoother and allow us to perform all tests with precision.

Gas Burner

Gas burner pressure’s checked and adjusted as necessary. We next use a gas meter to check that your Boiler’s using the correct amount of gas per hour. This analysis is known as a ‘gas rate check’. Another instrument we use is a ‘flue gas analyser’ placed inside the flue to measure the rate of oxygen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. This test makes sure your Boiler’s safe and running efficiently. The flue’s job is to expel all dangerous gasses while retaining maximum heat. We make sure the flue’s set up properly. If it isn’t, it’s adjusted, so it’s safe and doesn’t waste heat.

Ventilation

The ventilation around the Boilers checked to ensure your Boiler’s finding the required 10 meters of cubic air for every meter of cubic gas. Ventilation is crucial for sufficient boiler function and safety. Your Boiler’s home to various safety devices and valves prevents internal damage in the event of failure. These are checked to ensure proper function and renewed if necessary. The final safety check is to ensure there’s no leaking gas from the Boiler or any of the pipework. Finally, the case is cleaned and refitted. We then switch the Boiler on.

Radiators

We check that radiators are heating up properly and bleed them to remove any trapped air (a common occurrence in heating systems that prevent radiators from heating up properly). Sometimes we find radiators full of debris (old rust and particles built up over the years). This build-up prevents heating in the bottom and middle of radiators. If it’s severe, we may recommend a Powerflush. We’ll check all exterior pipework for adequate insulation and make recommendations on any exposed pipes as frozen pipes are a common cause of Boiler failure.

Finally, our Gas Engineer will tidy up the work area and write you a service record. You must keep this record in case you ever need it for insurance purposes.
